    BiographyKevin Wilson Jr.

Kevin Wilson, Jr. is an Oscar Nominated Filmmaker born in North Carolina and now based in New York City. It didn’t take long for the world to recognize his talent—by the time he finished his MFA in Film Production from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, he’d already been honored with a Gold Medal at the 44th Student Academy Awards, a Directors Guild of America Student Film Award, a BAFTA Student Film Award, AND a Spike Lee Production Fellowship.

He broke into advertising in 2020, and was quickly named 2021 AICP/MoMA’s Best New Director and SHOTS Best New Director, in addition to winning Four D&AD Pencils. Notably, Kevin’s Widen the Screen received a Silver Cannes Lion and his PSA for States United to Prevent Gun Violence has received many awards, including an ANDY and a Gold at Young Directors Award. In 2022 Kevin was named one of 15 Filmmakers Who've Made A Difference by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences.

His short film My Nephew Emmett, based on the true story of the 1955 murder of Emmett Till, was nominated for an Oscar for Best Live Action Short Film at the 90th Academy Awards. Wilson’s most recent work, a NETFLIX Original Documentary: “UNTOLD: The Rise & Fall of AND1” opened in the Top 5 most watched movies on Netflix this past August. Wilson is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences and the British Academy of Film and Television Arts.

Kevin just finished production of the Netlfix show Chef’s Table, featuring Kwame Onwuachi (whose restaurant Tatiana might be the best in New York City…yeah, we said it).
