    BiographyKevin Wilson Jr.

    Kevin Wilson Jr. is an Oscar-nominated filmmaker from North Carolina, now based in NYC. While earning his MFA at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, he collected a Student Academy Award gold medal, Directors Guild of America and BAFTA student honors, and the Spike Lee Production Fellowship.

    After moving into advertising in 2020, Wilson was named Best New Director by both AICP/MoMA and SHOTS in 2021 and took home four D&AD Pencils. His “Widen the Screen” campaign won a Silver Cannes Lion, and his PSA for States United to Prevent Gun Violence garnered an ANDY and a Young Director Award Gold Pencil. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences included him on its 2022 list of “15 Filmmakers Who’ve Made a Difference.”

    Wilson’s short My Nephew Emmett, recounting the 1955 murder of Emmett Till, earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Live Action Short. Recent work includes the Netflix documentary Untold: The Rise & Fall of AND1, which debuted in the platform’s top-five films, and an episode of Chef’s Table on chef Kwame Onwuachi. Wilson is a member of both the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences and BAFTA.
