One of the most widely acclaimed cinematographers in the world, Rodrigo Prieto is known for his meticulous setups, rich use of color, and his talent for creating a moving, visceral experience for the audience. His work has been recognized with several major award nominations, including nominations for the Academy Awards, Independent Spirit Awards, BAFTA Awards, Online Film Critics Society Awards, and American Society of Cinematographers Awards.

Rodrigo is also a frequent collaborator with Martin Scorsese, Ang Lee, Ben Affleck, and Mexican filmmaker Alejandro González Iñárritu. His first collaboration with Iñárritu, Amores Perros, is widely hailed as the cinematographer’s breakthrough and spurred his relocation to Los Angeles. Along with Amores Perros, their next two projects, 21 Grams and Babel, are widely regarded as the three films that have led the renaissance of Mexican cinema. Out of all the Iñárritu films he’s worked on, Rodrigo has said that Biutiful is the one of which he’s most proud.

Other notable films Rodrigo has DP’d include The Wolf of Wall Street, Babel, Argo, Brokeback Mountain, and 21 Grams.

While passionate about his work as a cinematographer, Rodrigo has recently branched into directorial work. His first short film, Likeness, starring Elle Fanning, premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2013. It features a teenage girl and the body dysmorphic issues she is struggling with.
