Malik Hassan Sayeed is a double threat, not only is he an accomplished director but an award winning cinematographer.
Malik started his career with Spike Lee, he showed up as a day player on the set of Malcolm X where Spike Lee quickly hired him on as a gaffer, then cinematographer for his short-form project. Malik DP’d Spike Lee’s feature Clockers, the first of many features that the two would collaborate on, including Girl 6, He Got Game, and the Original Kings of Comedy.
Spike Lee was not the only prestigious filmmaker Malik teamed up with, Malik was brought on as the 2nd unit cinematographer for Stanley Kubrick’s final film Eyes Wide Shut, as well as Andrew Niccol’s award winning film Gattaca.
Malik joined Little Minx after meeting Rhea Scott who convinced him to direct and their relationship quickly grew into a brother & sister partnership which lead to many a collaborative award winning projects; Music Videos for Lauryn Hill, D’angelo and Jay Z winning multiple Grammy’s. Their partnership also included the acclaimed Little Minx Exquisite Corpse series where Malik wrote & directed She Walked Calmly Disappearing into the Darkness. Their short was the first short to open Sundance Film Festival.
Malik is also a force to reckon with in the commercial industry. He has worked with great brands including Nissan, Pepsi, Clairol, Toyota, Sony, Miller, Boeing, Nintendo, Jenny Craig, Pantene, and Lexus. It is understandable how Malik has gained so many repeat collaborators over the course of his career. His visceral, evocative artistry is bolstered by an unparalleled passion and work ethic. Malik not only brings artistry to his work, but an in-depth understanding of the science behind light and camerawork. This has lent him an adaptability and ingenuity that make him an invaluable asset to any project.
